Sofia is the capital of Bulgaria and also the capital of Bulgarian football. The city hosts 4 professional football clubs. The biggest clubs are CSKA and Levski who are the most famous and popular clubs of the country. Their derby is among the best in the world. Other clubs from Sofia are Lokomotiv and Slavia. The match between Levski and Slavia is the oldest derby in Bulgaria.
West:
There are many professional football clubs in Bulgaria but most of them are located in the south-west (including Sofia). Here we have the derby of Blagoevgrad between Pirin and Pirin 1922. Bigger than this derby is the local derby Pirin-Belasica which is coonsidered the biggest rivalry in the south-west. Other derbies in this region are Marek-Belasica, Vihren-Pirin.
South:
In the south of the country we find the second biggest city derby, the derby of Plovdiv which is played between Lokomotiv and Botev.
East:
The biggest derby of the east is Spartak Varna - Cherno More Varna. Both clubs have a big tradition in Bulgarian football. |
