Name | : | Stade Gerland | Address | : | 350 Avenue Jean-Jaurès, 69007 Lyon | Capacity | : | 41200 | Record | : | 48552 (Ol. Lyon - St. Etienne, 9 September 1980) | Opened | : | 1926 | Other | : | The stadium, which is located in the Gerland district, was opened in 1926 but Olympique started to use it in 1950. The stadium used to have an athletics track and a cycling track around the pitch but these were removed when the stadium was mainly in use for football matches. For the 1984 European Championships the 'Jean Jaures' and 'Jean Bouin' stands were moved closer to the pitch. The Stade Gerland would also host some of the 1998 WorldCup matches and therefore the stands behind each goal were moved closer to the pitch and both stands were extended with a roof. |
