São Paulo in 1/4 final Copa by a 2-1 win

In spite of being favorite, São Paulo had difficulties beating rival Palmeiras.
In a very nervous match São Paulo beat Palmeiras in Morumbi stadium in front of 55.000 fans. In the first half things seemed to be easy for São Paulo. Aloísio scored the first goal and the others São Paulo players missed several chances, while Palmeiras coudn't reach the rival's area. In the whole first half they were able to threaten Rogério Ceni (São Paulo's goalkeeper) only one time.

But in the second half things changed. Palmeiras scored their goal through Washington and a few minutes later the referee gave a red card to São Paulo's striker Leandro. But in the end, after a great play from former national team player Júnior, the Palmeiras' player Thiago Gomes fouled him inside the penalty area. Rogério Ceni had to try two times until the referee validated his goal.

Players of both teams were still tense and nervous, so that Palmeiras' midfielder Paulo Baier also received the red card.

With this result São Paulo is still unbeaten against Palmeiras in Libertadores' matches after 8 matches.
