The top division of the Argentinian league is centred on Buenos Aires, so there are local derbies every weekend. Big matches are called "clásico" and the biggest is called "superclásico".
The superclásico is Boca Juniors vs River Plate (Buenos Aires City) and the biggest clásico is Independiente vs Rácing Club (outside the B.A. city boundary, but in Greater B.A.).
The clasico between Rosario Central and Newell's Old Boys (city of Rosario) is also very colourful and passionate but it is rare for either of the clubs to be in contention for the league championship title. |
